Don't know what do you call it in grammar [pack versus pack up]

    Hello,

sometimes I see some phrasal verbs which seem that they have a same meaning with the verb. For instance, what's the difference between 'pack' and 'pack up' in the following sentences?

    1) Pack up your bag.

    2) Pack your bag.

Or look at the sentence below that I copied it from a lyrics song:

so off down Brewer street and into a club
I guess it was 'down set' which because of aesthetic phenomena they changed it to 'off down'. But the question persists that what's the difference between "down" and "down off?"

    Thank you in advance,

There is no difference between "pack" and "pack up" in that use. Sometimes we use more words than are strictly necessary. It's patterns of language use. For example "get off of my car!"

I don't know what you mean by "down set." Song lyrics are not a good choice for studying language. "Off" and "down" are not supposed to be grouped together. Consider this rearrangement: "Off he went down Brewer Street."

We can say: He went off down Brewer Street. It's went and off that go together, not off and down.
