    be bad

    Hello,
Could you help me with the meaning of the next sentence:

"Digital photography has been bad for shops like that." I don't understand very well the meaning of "to be bad" here.

For example: Colesterol is bad for your cardiovascular system. This phrase is completely comprehensible. But how "a digital photography" can "be bad" for a shop?
Here must be some another meaning of "to be bad."

    Denis.

    Re: be bad

The whole paragraph is: "I used to get the filmes developed at a local photography shop. Of course, I haven't had to do that for a long time now. Digital photography has been bad for shops like that. Many of them have gone out of business."

And one more question. Does "go out of business" mean an obsolete thing here?

    Re: be bad

When a company goes out of business it ceases functioning. It is no longer producing goods or services. It is kaput.

    Re: be bad

Do you understand now why digital photography has been bad for shops that develop films?
“Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.”

    Re: be bad

Please note that we neither space after beginning quote marks nor before ending quote marks. Example: "The company went out of business."

    Re: be bad

    "It is/was/has been/had been bad for ..." = It has/had a negative/harmful effect on ...".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
