    Smile "astonished"

I would like to know the usage of the word "astonished." Does it mean being surprised because of both positive reason and negative reason? Is the sentence below correct?

"Tom's wife was astonished to know that he had quit his job."

    Thank you for your help!

    Re: "astonished"

I think "astonish" is most often used for a negative, but a positive is possible.

In your sentence, I would change "know" to "hear".

    Re: "astonished"

    Or "to find out".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
