    have seen/ saw

    Hello!

1.I have seen that advertisement a couple days ago.
2.I saw that advertisement a couple days ago.

I understand that in sentence 1 Perfect time is used because there is no exact date and, probably, it has some effect on the speaker till today.
Is sentence 2 possible? Please, explain why or why not and how it changes the meaning.
    Any help is highly appreciated!

    Re: have seen/ saw

    2. is correct because "a couple of days ago" counts as a past time marker.
    1. is wrong.

The present perfect is a present tense. It talks about now. The situation is that now you have seen the advertisement. If you want to talk about when you saw it, you use the past tense.

    Re: have seen/ saw

    Sentence 2 is correct.
    Sentence 1 is not.

I saw that ad a couple of days ago. (Note that in BrE, it's "a couple of days ago".)

A: I have seen that ad.
B: When did you see it?
A: I saw it a couple of days ago.

I have seen that ad in the last couple of days.
