    Anything wrong with this sentence?

President Obama is visiting Malaysia, and a welcome message is displayed as shown. Some Malaysians are laughing at it, claiming that it is poor English. Is it?

There should be "the" before USA, other than that it's OK.
“Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.”

Re: Anything wrong with this sentence?

There seem to be a lot of puffed-up pedants in Malaysia.

We would say "Welcome, President Obama' or 'Welcome to Malaysia, President Obama', but the original words are OK on a sign of welcome.

Re: Anything wrong with this sentence?

I read it as "(We would like to extend a warm) Welcome to the ..."
I have no problem with the original.

Re: Anything wrong with this sentence?

If the idea behind it is extending a warm welcome to him, it would be OK. It is a sign with limits on space, and it isn't a complete sentence, so why can't it be read in a similar way to headlines. There is a mistake in not using the before USA. However, if Obama is going to see the actual sign, then Piscean's versions would work better. I think it depends on whether the message is to him directly or not. Was he driven down this road?
