You have been stupid enough to do / You have been so stupid as to do such a thing

    Hello everybody!

Many years ago a young and inexperienced boy was on his way to see his mum at her place of work. He used to eat dinner in the spa canteen there. On his way there, he decided to turn into the forest and to his horror he chanced on a hunter bullet. What he started doing with it was not very wise; he started throwing it against trees in the forest to find out what would happen. On arriving at his mum's place of work, he boasted about how he started throwing it against trees. What should his mum have said to him:
"You have been stupid enough to do such a thing" or "You have been so stupid as to do such a thing".

Does "You have been stupid enough to do such a thing" indicate that it was before the event (of throwing it against trees)?

Does "You have been so stupid as to do such a thing" mean that it was after the event (of throwing it against trees)?

    Could you express your opinion?

I know that the first thing that might spring to mind is to use "you ought to know better than to do such a thing".

    Thank you.

I think she'd just say "That was really stupid!"

Do you think my variants are interchangeable and could you explain under what conditions they could be used?

I really can't imagine anyone using the variants that you proposed.

Re: You have been stupid enough to do / You have been so stupid as to do such a thing

Your suggestions are unnatural. "Doing that was so stupid" is one way to use "so stupid" in that context.

Kid: I found a bullet and threw it at a tree.
    Mum: What happened?
Kid: It bounced off and hit me in the eye.
Mum: Well, you were stupid enough to do it in the first place so you deserved that!

Won't you admit that "You were stupid enough to do it" is tantamount to "You were so stupid as to do it".

You could see it used with the present tense, where it would sound more natural:

He is stupid enough to believe them.
