    make it happen

Is the sentence a natural one? If not, how could I correct it?

Becoming a doctor has always been a dream of mine and I work hard to make it happen.

Is it natural to say 'Becoming a doctor has always been my dream, which I work hard to realize'?
    I am not a teacher.
