I'm currently preparing for the IELTS test and have a question regarding writing task two. If I'm writing a persuasive essay or some form of argument, would it be acceptable to use a question in my introduction? By this I don't mean just repeating the question that I've been given, but opening my essay with a thoughtful question that is related to the topic?
I know that this is often used in persuasive writing, however I'm unsure whether I can use it on the IELTS test.
It's not possible to give a general answer to this question. Using a well-written, clever question can work in an introduction. However, most questions I've seen in essay introductions were counterproductive.
