[General] Curving with the river

One of my students wrote about our city:

Curving with the river makes it possible to stand at the northern part of the city and see the lights of the southern part reflected by the river.

I think the sentence is incorrect. It should be:

The city's curving with the river makes it possible to stand in the northern part of the city and see the lights of the southern part reflected by the river. (or As the city is curving with the river, it is possible...)

What is the best variant to word this idea - my student's, mine or some other?
And is it "stand at the northern part of the city" (the student's variant) or "stand in the northern part of the city" (my variant)?

I would start with "The curve of the river makes it possible to ..." and end with "reflected in the water".

Having read the example below, I would go for 'in'.

I would probably say "... stand at the northern end of the city and see the lights of the southern end reflected in the water".

And what preposition is to be used if you are not "at the end", but "in the middle" of the northern/southern part of the city?

Well, as you said, I'd be standing "in the middle of the north/south part of the city".
