Are the sentences below correct? Do they mean the same? Is the any basic difference between these sentences?

1. We were hungry and thirsty.

2. We felt hungry and thirsty.

In #3, there is the suggestion that there was no food or drink to satisfy their hunger and thirst.

I still don't understand #3. Could you please give any example to help me to understand?
