Does the sentence mean "Each dream episode which lasts about twenty minutes follows a period of deep sleep"?

Thank you very much for your explanation. The reference book translates it just the other way round, i.e. dreaming first then sleeping deep.
I don't know why "Thank" and "like" do not show. So I feel a short reply and thank are needed.

I think commas are needed around the above relative clause, which seems non-restrictive according to the original sentence.
