[General] Where do you live?

Hello,

When in England somebody ask me: "Where do you live?" what does he mean especially for the BrE sense?
I know what it's one of typical questions in the FCE exam and it seems to me when I have been studied for one year at British Council they are used to mean the exact location, not the country, neither the town but the district or even the street. Am I right for BrE?

Here is more general variants which of them should be more usual for BrE:

1) Where do you live? I live in Amsterdam.

2) Where do you live, Charlie? On the 6th Avenue.

3) Where do you live? I live on the 7th floor of that building.

4) Where do you live? I live almost next door.

5) Where do you live, Alex? At the moment, I live at my parents’ country house

For BrE:

The question depends on who's asking and other contextual things.

Even though we use "in" with streets in BrE, I would probably use "on Sixth Avenue" because it sounds like a street in America, and I know that AmE uses "on" in that context.

Yes, I'm sure there are places called "Sixth Avenue" in the UK! I should have said that if I were talking about an American street address, I would use the AmE "on" with it.
