    'Expand' Vs 'Extend'; buildings

    Hi all,

Do the verbs 'Expand' and 'Extend' differ in meaning when talking about buildings? For me, it feels like the latter must have something to do with the building's horizontal shape!

Your understanding is generally correct. Extend usually refers to adding on in one dimension, while expand tends to indicate increasing size in more than one direction.
