"It's amazing how you try your best...

Hello again. I have another question for today. It involves the use of conjunctions and idioms.

I got this right off of an indie film I watched today:
"It's amazing how you try your best to portray yourself as a wealthy socialite, but at the end of the day, you're nothing but a poor simpleton who made ends meet at the most convenient times possible."

I was wondering if's grammatically correct to use an idiom after a conjunction, and whether or not there should be a comma before or after the idiom. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I would punctuate it like that.
"Invading armies have no rights." Noam Chomsky

So would I, and it's fine to use an idiom (in this case a cliché) after a conjunction.
