    this street (pronunciation)

    Hello

When pronouncing "this street", can I simply read as if there is just one "s" sound like "thistreet", or do I have to pronounce two "s" sounds with a brief break in beween?

I am not sure if this question is understandable. Thanks.

You need to say two "s" sounds with a pause. Otherwise, it sounds like you are saying "the street."

    Re: this street (pronunciation)

In normal conversation, I do not make a pause, but my /s/ is definitely longer than it is in 'this treat. For me, there is no possibility of confusion with 'the street' - the vowels of 'this' and 'the' are different.

In any case, people in a conversation normally have no problems - we use context and common sense to help us work out intended meaning.

Like Piscean, I don't pause between the first "s" and the second but what I say sounds a little like "Thissstreet". I also agree that there shouldn't be any confusion because "thi" doesn't sound like "the".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

If the /s/ is not longer, it will sound strange, though.
