[Grammar] like speaking and like to speak

I think the sentences below are correct and carry the same meaning. However, I’m unsure.

a) I like speaking Italian whenever I am in Italy.

b) I like to speak Italian whenever I am in Italy.

They mean the same and they're both correct.

They are both fine, but I would be more likely to use the second as I tend to use that form when the like is in some way restricted. I'd use the gerund for a general fondness for speaking Italian.
