Hello,
I am not sure if I understand the sentence below correctly.
"Nor had all Park Lane, with bulging manner and pocketbook, been clamouring at his door, would he have sold a picture."
Does the author mean:
"Even if all Park Lane had been clamouring at his door to buy a picture, the painter would have sold them none."
I am also not sure if I get the phrase bulging manner right. Does it mean conceited manner?
