how do you call this thing in english? does it have a proper word?

A desk tidy or organizer has multiple compartments or spaces to sort out stationery on the desk.
The container seems to be designed primarily to keep pen/pencils, judging from its size and dimensions.
I would go with Mike on the name - pen/pencil holder or cup(being round).
I am not a teacher.
I agree that it's a bit ambitious to call that a desk tidy. If it's meant to be one, it's not doing a good job.
