Unhappy [seek for help] Does e in error sound like a instead of /ɛ/ ?

Does e in error sound like a instead of /ɛ/ ? if yes , why? I am always being told e should be pronounced as /ɛ/ . But when I hear people say word "error", it sounds like a-rror.

It sounds like /ɛ/ to me. In fact, the whole word is pronounced exactly like 'terror' without the 't'.

I've never heard "error" pronounced as if the first letter were like the "a" in "arrow".

Are 'merry' and 'marry' homophones in your dialect?

"I've never heard "error" pronounced as if the first letter were like the "a" in "arrow"."

That's how I say it and how I hear it spoken. How do you say it?

So, the question now is, how do you pronounce 'arrow'?

The UK pronunciation of both words are on Forvo.

If you scroll to the bottom of each list, you can hear my pronunciation!
