Can "alongside" and "with" be used interchangeably?

Sometimes I discover that "alongside" can be replaced by "with" in some sentences without changing the meaning. Can they be used interchangeably?

For instance, do the following sentences carry the exact meaning?

    1) Major asset replacement and upgrading of facilities is underway, alongside the construction of the new lines to enhance the overall customer experience

    2) Major asset replacement and upgrading of facilities is underway, with the construction of the new lines to enhance the overall customer experience

    Thanks!

Not necessarily. 'With' in the second suggest the the replacement and upgrading of the facilities is a result of the reconstruction of the new lines.'Alongside' merely tells us that the two things are happening at the same time.

You could replace alongside with along with.
