I got toys for my kids to last the rest of the year

    Hello everybody!

So did you manage to pick up any bargains?

Plenty, I got toys for my kids to last the rest of the year.

    My question is:

Why should the toys only last the rest of the year? Would they then be falling apart under the very eyes of a disappointed child? Were they designed to be that weak?

Please explain that to me. I don't understand it.

    Thank you.

It is about car boot sale.

Where did you find that text?
“Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.”

To be honest, the exact meaning is not clear to me.

That seems extremely unlikely to me.

Re: I got toys for my kids to last the rest of the year

If the person who bought the toys was in the habit of regularly buying toys, the meaning would be that no more toys ned to be bought for the rest of the year.

It means the speaker will not have to buy any more toys for their kids until the next year. The quantity purchased is enough to cover needs for the rest of the year.
