Would you please correct my grammar and punctuation in the following sentences?
1. David sat in a carrel of a public library but was unable to concentrate on reading. Opposite him sat a beautiful blond who would now and then stretch out her long legs towards him and wink flirtatiously.
2. The guests arrived at the party in their best. The ladies seemed to compete with each other in their expensive dresses and jewellery.
3. The bodies of the victims of the traffic accident lay arrayed on the pavement as if they were goods waiting for transport.
4. The man with a grizzled face and dishevelled blond hair drew looks at him as he walked the streets, but none of the passers-by could have imagined that he was a famous painter.
5. As the weather turned dismal, and heavy rains pounded the soil for days, the potholes became large pools in which naked children played unrestrained.
6. If Gina had known that her husband would treat her like a doormat, she would never have set foot in his home.
7. The Prime Minister dodged all questions about his private life and told reporters they should instead ask him about economy.
8. John slipped on ice and fell, and his wife jeered, telling him it was punishment for his adultery.
