I’m unsure if I should use understand or understood in the sentence below. Due to ‘heard’, I’m inclined to use ‘understood’.

You don’t need to reiterate your point; we have heard and understand/understood what you’re saying.

Thank you for teaching me!
:-D

They're both acceptable.

We have heard and [we] understand.
We have heard and [we have] understood.

I don't understand why 'understand' is grammatically correct. Due to the presence of 'and', I thought it has to be 'understood'.

Kindly help me to understand why 'understand' is also correct.

Thank you! :-D

I think the auxiliary 'have' does not necessarily apply to the verb after 'and'.

She just said that they are acceptable. She didn't say why.

I think what she wrote suggests what I said in post#4.

Now I see. So you wrote why both can be acceptable.

I agree that both are acceptable, for the reasons already given, but I would also be inclined to use understood.

Both sentences say two things.
1a. "We have heard what you're saying" and b."We have understood what you're saying."
2a. "We have heard what you're saying" and b."We understand what you're saying."

If you still understand what you have understood, both sentences mean the same.
