the Greenland ice cap staying put and the sea-level rising, over centuries by six mt.

    Hi There

I want to salutate the members of the forum.
I want to ask a translation from a web site.

    Here is the source:
    http://www.economist.com/news/leader...le-could-still

In the non-linear universe of climate change, 3C represents a lot more than twice as much risk and harm as 1.5C; it could well, for instance, be the difference between the Greenland ice cap staying put and the sea-level rising, over centuries, by six metres.
I can not understand the sentence in red. Could you please explain it? Thanks in advance.

It is suggesting that the effects of "climate change" will be catastrophic if the change is just a degree or so more than 1.5 C.

If the rise is 1.5 C, then the ice cap stays put. If the rise reaches 3 C, then we will have mere centuries to deal with a 6 meter rise in sea level.

    Welcome to the forum, tahasozgen.

'Stays put' means 'remains the same'.
