Hi everyone. Can you explain verb give up the ghost following sentence, please?
~ She’s never going to marry you. Why don’t you just give up the ghost and move on with your life?
We usually use this idiom to describe to stop working. But, I think that the sentence which is above is completely different.
- My old computer finally gave up the ghost the other day.
- We've had the same television for fifteen years and I think it's finally about to give up the ghost.
- He had not been to town since spring because his car had given up the ghost.
