    Question Pronouncing the word Fiery

    Hi!

On viewing a video on Youtube from the channel Anglophenia on Britain's mystical creatures the first one was Black Chuck a dog which was described as to have fiery eyes. The host on that video pronounced it F - ai - ry. I always thought it was pronounced F - ea - ry. Glad to know which is the correct or if one is British and the other American.

    Kindest regards
    Anders Hansen

Thanks Rover_KE. Its gonna be fun and interesting reading the threads on this forum. I've always been very interested in English and now, thanks to a lifetime of reading, speaking, listening and writing English I'm proud to say I consider myself fluent in it . Much obliged for your help. best Anders.

Bookmark the site Forvo. Choose English from the list of languages, then search for the word you're looking for. If it's there, you'll get a list of examples of the word pronounced by various native English speakers. Their variant of English is listed with their username.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

Tdol - I suppose since Fierce is pronounced F - ea - rce I naturally assumed that Fiery would be too, but come to think of it and after listening to the soundclips it naturally has to be f - ai - ry since it is derived from Fire.

Yes, it's derived from fire so it's pronounced "fire-ree".

It rhymes with diary, wiry, and retiree.
I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.
