    in payment

    Are both sentences OK?

    (1) We enclose our cheque for the sum of $100 in payment of your invoice.

    (2) We enclose our cheque for the sum of $100 for payment of your invoice.

    Re: in payment

1 is OK. 2 is unnatural.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
