Question Is the tongue in or out of the mouth?

I have encountered the following sentences in a novel: (1)she sticks her tongue in the side her mouth. (2)she sticks her tongue in the corner of her mouth. I cannot tell where her tongue is when she does those actions. Is it in or out of her mouth?
