Article usage is very complex and cannot be reduced to a few rules. Many learners find it takes years to work out all the nuances.

I have read - and I agree - that the natural use of articles is the last thing to fall in place for your writing to be considered "native-like."

Note that "good night" is a way of saying "goodbye." Use "good evening" (or just a simple "Hello") instead.
