    he could do good to the state

    He wouldn't have run for president if he hadn't thought that he could do good to the state


    The problem with this sentence is that I'm not absolutely sure whether "do good to smth" works in the sentence. What would you say instead of my sentence?
    Please, correct all my mistakes. I should know English perfectly and if you show me my mistakes I will achieve my dream a little bit faster. A lot of thanks.
