    they went into the saloon

    No one could say that they were not having a good time. As soon as dinner was finished they went into the saloon, where the Christmas tree, with candles lit, was ready, and the children were brought in, screaming with delight, and given presents.

    What kind of place is "saloon" here? This seems to have many meanings including bar.
