    Whenever a member

"I used to think that whenever a member opened a thread moderators came to know about it".

"I used to think that whenever a member opens a thread moderators come to know about it".

"I thought that whenever a member opened a thread moderators came to know about it".

In this scenario, I have just been told that this is not true and what I used to think was true has just been denied. So which one of these is correct?

    The first one is correct.
“Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.”

The third one would be OK if you change "cane" to "came".

I think the present tense should not be used because that is not your present thinking.
    I am not a teacher.

    Note my corrections above.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
