    are showing excessive demand

It is necessary to produce more goods because today people are showing excessive demand.

Does the phrase "to show excessive demand" sound natural to you? I'm not sure whether I need to use "the present continuous" in the sentence above. I'd like to but the question is whether it's necessary.
Please, correct all my mistakes. I should know English perfectly and if you show me my mistakes I will achieve my dream a little bit faster. A lot of thanks.

    Re: are showing excessive demand

Are you confident with your usage of the word excessive? In what way is this demand excessive? Demand is more typically considered as growing, increasing, or some other, more positive adjective. To me, excessive has a negative connotation, and people manufacturing goods would not typically think of an increase in demand as a negative thing.
