Talking Pronunciation of bass, /beɪs/ vs. /bs/

I've heard both of them being used, the first one more often, the latter one as a joke in a sketch.

But are they both correct? Or was the sketch to show that it's bad pronunciation and dumb?

    Thanks in advance!

When the word refers to a fish, it is /bs/ . In most other meanings, it is /beɪs/.

There's also a tree called a basswood. The first syllable is pronounced like the fish.
