    anchor down

When you get close to the torrent it just is overpowering! We're being buffeted and soaked and everybody's anchoring down, trying to escape from the spray. But actually it's completely uplifting and a wonderful rainbow has appeared through the mist.

The above is from a documentary about a ship ride to Niagara Falls. What does "anchor down" mean? Does it mean "go down into the cabin"?

    Thanks!

    Jason

    Re: anchor down

My guess is that it means they're holding on tight to something.

The author may have meant to say hunkering down.

    Re: anchor down

Very likely, I think. I wonder if it's just a mishearing on the part either of the OP or of a sub-title.
