    Put out to sea

I am not sure if my sentence sounds natural. Would you please correct my mistakes?

On a Sunday morning, the ship put out to sea and in the afternoon it made port at Portsmouth.

    Re: Put out to sea

    It's fine.

    Seafarers would omit 'out'.
