Most ever active users was 1927?

On the main page of UsingEnglish.com, there is a menu at the top reads "Forums (chat and discussions)". If you click it it opens up a new window; scroll down till the end, you will see written "currently active users"; and under it "most ever active users was 1927". Don't you think it should be "most ever active users were 1927"? Because it is a multiple number of users, and not a user. If I have done any mistake in punctuation, please correct it.

    Thanks!

    I wouldn't use either. I'd put a colon instead.

No. "Most" = "The highest number" which is singular.

The highest number of users ever online at the same time was 1927.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

So, is it a mistake on the website?

Re: Most ever active users was 1927?

You said the website says "was" and I've just told you that is correct. Why would you now think it's a mistake?

Note that in post #1 you wrote "If I have done any mistake ...". It should be "If I have made any mistakes ...".

If UsingEnglish.com still hasn't beaten the user count it attained in 1927, I'd say the site needs to find more users.
    I am not a teacher.

If it said "in 1927", that would be a mistake.
