    it was possible...

    Which are correct:

    1) It was possible that I was married to Jane now, but I am not.

    2) It would be possible that I was married to Jane now, but I am not.
    3) It was a possibility that I was married to Jane now, but I am not.
    4) I could be married to Jane now, but I am not.
    5) I might be married to Jane now, but I am not.

I am not married to Jane now. I never married her. But that was a possibility. It was in the realm of the possible. Just because I am not married to her now doesn't mean it was impossible that we should be married.

    Gratefully,
    Navi.

    Re: it was possible...

    4) is the only one possible.
“Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.”
