What do you call "protective cushion" in the crate?

When you want to package a fragile goods in the box, usually they will put the "nest" made from grass straw around the object as form of protection before seal the box & moving it. What is that called? the cushion looks like nest, protective pad?

I'd call it "packing" or "packing material". Styrofoam packing, bubble packing, grass straw packing.

We call the loose styrofoam packing filler (or its biodegradable cornstarch-based substitute) "peanuts".

I haven't heard peanuts used in BrE, though it is a good term.
