A/NO ARTICLE cricket match is being played.

    This is not my homework.

When going through some literary source, I came across the sentence "Cricket match is being played". The sentence was not from a paragraph and was a independent sentence in an exercise related to finding errors related to the correct use of articles.
I think that cricket match being a countable noun MUST take article 'A" with it.

Kindly tell me is it mandatory to use the article A in this sentence or will it be fine without the article?

    Thank you in advance.

    An article is needed.

The definite article could also work in some contexts.

I agree. That's why I wrote 'An article is needed'.

I was just attempting to make things a bit clearer. Mind you, it was a botched job. My apologies.
