The Banyan is "a/no article" kind of fig tree.

    This is not my homework.

Kindly tell me which of the following sentences is/are correct?

1:- The Banyan is kind of fig tree.
2:- The banyan is a kind of fig tree.

    Thank you in advance.

It is, though you do see the name used with a capital letter too, but the indefinite article is essential for me.
