One of the weight-loss option is

I would like to make up two similar examples. I am not sure what preposition to use.

    (1) One of the weight-loss options is ___ the application of surgery.

    (2) One of the weight-loss options is ___ surgery.

Can I use either "by" or "through" in the blanks above? Please explain it. Thanks a lot.

Re: One of the weight-loss option is

Note that I have changed your thread title to make it relevant. Titles should include some/all of the words/phrases you are querying.

There is no need for a preposition in either sentence. "One of the weight-loss options is surgery." "The application of surgery" is unnatural.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
