It is the first time something has happened

    Hello,

We say: It is the (first, second etc) time something has happened.

What difference does it make if I use simple past ?

    Ex:
    A) It is the first time she has lost her passport.
    B) It is the first time she lost her passport.

Thank you for your consideration and guidance.
