Here, I have encountered several special cases with suffixes. The general rule is that the root has different definitions. After adding suffixes, the derived words share different meanings. Could you kindly using your knowledge of words to help me collecting more similar groups of words? It is difficult to find one from flapping through dictionaries.
respect-respectable-respectful-*respective; in this group, after adding -tive, the meaning of the root(respect) changes to the second definition of respect (=aspect).
The other one I know is: success-successful-*succession (derived from succeed)
You know it really troubles me --a EFL learner.
Thanks for your help.
