How did I get from A to B

    Hello

Look at the "map" below please.

    A B

    C D

I needed to drive from A to B, but the road was too crowded with loads of traffic, so I decided to go via C and D and finally to get to B. In fact, mathematically expressed, AB is just 1 km, but AC+CD+DB is almost 5 km. I wonder if there is such an expression to describe how I got rid of the traffic on AB by sacrificing my time and petrol.

    Thanks.

You took a detour. However, you did not get rid of traffic on AB.

In addition to the above: you went the long way round/took a roundabout route to dodge the traffic

He bypassed the heavy traffic and took a longer route.
