    I kept thinking about my mother.

    Which is the same usage as the exmple?
    example: I was walking slowly toward the kid.
    Keeping a diary every day is not easy.
    ② How about playing outside?
    ③ I kept thinking about my mother.
    She's making her own wedding dress
    ⑤ He enjoyed studying with his friends.
    ==========================
    Can 3 ( I kept thinking about my mother. ) be an answer as well? In keep ~ing contruction, is ~ing used as present participle or gerund? I think the former.

    Re: I kept thinking about my mother.

    Sentence 4 should be the correct answer.

    Re: I kept thinking about my mother.

    Sentence 4, like the original sentence is an example of a progressive/continuous tense/aspect in use.

    Re: I kept thinking about my mother.

    Do you mean "thinking" is a gerund in this structure of "keep + ~ing"? I seem to have seen that this ~ing after "keep" is treated as a present participle, but maybe it's wrong.
    I kept thinking about my mother.

    Does it matter?

    Neither Quirk et al (1985) nor Huddleston and Pullum (2002) attach much importance to the distinction between gerund and present participle. Neither do I.
