Context would provide the difference for me- a surgeon is not a physician.

I know that a general physicians treats minor diseases like cough, cold, flu etc. Whereas a specialist treats one specific area, like a dermatologist only treats skin problems but I don't know how a medical practitioner is different from general physician.

off course, but I haven't asked bout a surgeon. It is already clear that a surgeon performs surgeries. I am asking about general physicians, medical practitioners and doctors how are they different from each other.

A medical practitioner is someone who provides medical care. This is a broad category. A medical doctor (an "M.D.") is one kind of medical practitioner. The term general physician is not used in AmE. We use the term general practitioner to describe an M.D. who does not practice a specialty like gastroenterology.
