    without having dinner....

    Is this sentence correct:

    1) Some people left the party without having dinner and did so in a nearby restaurant.

Meaning: Some people left the party without having dinner and had dinner in a nearby restaurant.

    Gratefully,
    Navi.

    Re: without having dinner....

It's awkward. Did so can be read* to refer to "left the party" rather than "having dinner". I would rephrase the sentence to remove the ambiguity. Better yet, divide it into two: Some people left the party without having dinner. They ate in a nearby restaurant.

*(I know it can be read that way because for some reason, that's how I understood it on first reading. Even when your meaning seems obvious, you should avoid sentences which make the reader think about what you wanted to say.)
