It's not clear now if they were actually married, or if the marriage is planned for the future.

They aren't married yet, but the parents have arbitrarily decided.

Part of the reason for the lack of clarity is that the sentence/passage is in the present tense. It sounds like the description of a romantic comedy movie. "Daniel and Diana are arranged by their families to be married. However, their egotisms and past failures spoil their relationship, until their siblings come to their rescue." You're not supposed to know whether they marry or not until you've watched the movie.

Basically, it’s a romantic comedy movie. When trying to think of a plot twist, I've switched to “An arranged marriage is set up for an architect named Daniel and Diana, a lawyer by their families”, I think it sounds much better than “Daniel and Diana are arranged by their families to be married”.

From the sound of it, I do think think it can be considered a marriage. The couple are introduced to each other by their families with a view to getting them married. The marriage is subject to how their relationship turns out. In a traditionally arranged marriage, a couple would not have the option to back out. No?

Yes tedmc, no option. Chosen for each other by their parents, but in this movie theyboth try to build a loving relationship even though their marriage is arranged by their family.

You really need a comma after "lawyer". You could also say:

A marriage is arranged by their families for Daniel, an architect, and Diana, a lawyer.

OR

Their families arrange a marriage for Daniel, an architect, and Diana, a lawyer.

There are other possibilities.
