    Question 'Used' vs 'past simple'

Confused between- "He believed I am from Blighty,""he believed I was from Blighty,""he used to believe that I was from Blighty." Also can we use present simple with 'used to?' For eg. "He used to believe that I am from Blighty."
    Thanks.

    Re: 'Used' vs 'past simple'

He believes ... Simple statement of what he believed in the past. We do not know whether he still believes this.
He used to believe ... He believed this in the past, but no longer believes it.

The past tense I was from Blighty is the natural form to to follow this.
